Is an old cracked dash worth anything?
« on: January 18, 2014, 11:20:08 pm »
I just replaced my old original cracked dash with an aftermarket dash pad. The new one is really rubbery and flexible, not at all like the original that had that solid metal frame.

So, I figured this core mist be worth something?  Or not?  Do you throw a cracked dash on eBay?  People looking to restore these?

CA BIG RED there are a ton of sites and video's on the web showing how to repair cracked dashboards, if you are unhappy with the one you bought, try one of these methods, if you like how it turned out, refinish it and reinstall in your truck.  If not throw away, you were going to anyway.
I actually plan on doing this to mine when I get to the interior, I have my original and the parts truck I bought, so I do have 2 to get it right.

Thanks bake74, I might try that.  I do like the fit and finish of the one I put in, but I just can't bring myself to throw away what was obviously a better frame than these replacement parts they are selling today.

Let me know what video or site you find to be most useful for this particular restoration and I'll take a look.

Thanks!

The one you got is the original design Dashes Direct piece.  It is find for a driver but if you want authentic you have to move up to the vinyl skinned version.  Prior to August 2013 the rubbery version was the only option.

They are in the catalog now..

With that said, depending on how bad it was, I wouldn't throw it away.  There has been a few post on here with people fixing them.

No one makes the plastic overlay ?

We bought one for a 76 celica that just laid right over the top

It wasn't soft.  Just hard plastic  but it popped right over the top and looked great

Odd that they have a color chart for every item but the dash
Be nice to have a color to pick from

I think we have dark brown  in the truck now

PO covered the lower metal part of the dash and floor  with Bedliner

The OE style dash was made like the factory so the owner could paint them to match like the factory did...
