The A/C system in my truck is empty. I don't know how long its been this way, but someone already converted the fittings to R134a. This will be my first attempt at A/C repair other than adding freon. I plan on replacing the accumulator and doing a vacuum check for leaks. I have a few questions:
1) How do I check the compressor while the system is empty? (I realize this could damage it, but I only want to see if it will turn. Just a split second will be enough) I don't want to waste money on freon if the compressor is no good.
2) The previous owner replaced the engine and most of the smog stuff has been disconnected. Other than the idle switch for when the compressor kicks in, is there anything else I would need to reconnect?
