LED Off Road Lights??
« on: February 08, 2014, 08:16:38 pm »
looking at buying some led off road lights, look to be pretty freakin bright. the ones im looking at are aurora light bars. come with a 2 year warranty  google them and check these bad boys out and give me your thoughts? ive seen plenty of other people test them that are in no way affiliated with this company and they seem to hold up very well. minimum order is 10 lights so im bout to put out a chunk of cash. would anyone else be interested in these lights? i don't need 10 lights and don't like emptying my pockets all at once :)

I did the google test but there a thousand different ways to buy these things. A little more detail would help. No, I'm not interested in getting any, just curious as to how well leds work in an offroad situation. I can't see them being all that bright, to me most led light is subdued and cloudy looking. I was shown a small flashlight once that would shine a beam about 100fett and illuminate a lit florescent light bulb during the day. It was BRIGHT! AND it cost over a hundred bucks! But it was still a cloudy muddy looking beam regardless of how bright it was. Are they better these days?

Yes WAAAAYYYY better in the last few years LEDs have come a LONG way. i should be getting all of mine in about 3 weeks when i do im going to preform my own test on them and post here, ill also take some pics of brightness compared to my car head lights. also there are a thousand different way to buy these but the main thing is getting one that is quality made. i did a lot of research before buying because a friend bought a $300 light bar for $180 on ebay and when he hooked it up he was not impressed. it was bright but not as bright and didn't throw light as far as he had expected

I've been out of the hunt so long the hot pick of my day was a KC Hilighter. Hooked straight to the battery with a solenoid operated switch (read modified starter type) in line as a contactor and they were BRIGHT!

A buddy of mine that had a GTO put two aircraft landing beam bulbs in the high beam spot back in the seventies. He could get about 45 seconds of driving time with them on before his circuit breaker tripped and took out all the lights in the outside of the car. They lit up about two miles in front of the car. At least it seemed that way LOL.

Back in those days two spots and two floods (by KC Lights with the Yellow smiley covers) on a bed mounted rollbar-style light bar was the hot ticket. So was a 300 amp alternator. LOL! But that also helped with the onboard welders of the day.

Also, on a side note, i think Trucklite has regular on road led headlights available but they are expensive:

Trucklite is high quality though:

Big difference. What brand and what did you have to give for them?
Cecil: 1987 V20, TBI 350, TH400, 4:10's, 7" lift, 37" H1 beadlocked runflats. Cummins swap someday.

to be honest im not sure on brand i talked to so many manufactures about sample lights. I would have to find my paper work. After shipping i have about ~$70 in them (the set), Thats whole sale cost. i believe they retail for around $120 a set through these are CHEAP compared to rigid lights etc. i should have a order of lights from Aurora in the next week or so. They are military grade lights, Built in breathers, submersible, and supposedly overall stronger.
