What was standard equipment in a K20?
« on: February 27, 2014, 06:46:16 pm »
So, this doesn't actually apply to our bodystyle, the truck i'm looking at is a factory '68 Chev 3/4 ton 4x4 but since this is Chevy we're talking about they didn't change that much in their trucks.
What would said truck have as factory drivetrain equipment? All I know is the engine is a 292 straight six; trans is a 4-speed stick w/ low gear. Would that be a TM465? and what kind of transfer case would it likely have, an NP205? Open differentials or maybe some sort of posi unit out back? again as far as I know the truck is bone stock and it's fairly safe to assume so.

Probably  has a SM420 tranny ,an eaton rear end, a dana 44 front end and a rockwell transfer case. If you go to the 1947-present chevy truck forum and look in the 68-72 section you will find all the answers with pictures .

My '68 C10 had a 292 with a SM465 manual transmission.  Since it is a 1/2-ton and 2WD the rear axle was a truck 12-bolt with open diff.
