Best muffler for a SBC?
« on: February 28, 2014, 10:42:56 am »
I've got a 350, Hooker headers and 2.5" dual exhaust. Right now i'm using Thrush Turbo's, and they are starting to sound a bit tinny on me, kind of like a worn glasspack. What I want is a deeper, and more aggressive sounding set of mufflers. Prices aside, affordable or expensive, what is your best opinion for a deep rumble sound?

I would go on FlowMaster's website and check out there mufflers. They have videos for sound testing. I really like the Super 40 muffler.

Going to put 2 super 40s on my new dual exhaust for the new engine in my truck.

In the same boat as you.. My old flowmasters sound horrible now.. After my research it seems that Borla and MagnaFlow are the best sound+performance.
Both are a bit much for my pocket at the moment. IM opting for Flowtech Warrior exhaust. One of the quiet ones at idle and gets a bit louder at WOT.

Perform a site search for "muffler" and you should find enough reading material for a couple of weeks, including links to manufacturer's sites with sound clips.   ;)

The last time I had exhaust work done on my truck, I decided to try out the Flow Master mufflers, replacing the 'glass pack (unknown manufacturer) style I'd always used before. I do not care for the sound of the Flow Masters at all, and wish I wouldn't have given them a try.

I've been using the cherry bomb turbo mufflers. Sound good at idle and not too loud when driving and standing on it. Plus price isnt too bad either. Had flowmasters before sounded decent but the inside baffling let go and they rattled.Drove me nuts.

I use Dynomax, Magnaflow or Pypes Race Pro (the race is actually quieter at idle).  I will try and take a video of my Twin Turbo truck this weekend (if I remember)
