89 3+3 car hauler
« on: March 11, 2014, 09:26:51 pm »
stopped at the local scrap yard today and guess what i found! It had to be a sign from above lol. phone died right after i took the first pic but its an 89 with a tbi 454. power windows and locks/ ac interior is in pretty good shape. hopefully ill be buying it next week. they are going to remove the car hauling bed. i wanted the bed to customize but they took $1100 off the asking price without the bed. (my friend pointed out that if i loaded my mud truck on it that i would NOT clear traffic lights or low bridges haha) Sooo they are asking $900 without the bed they said it had engine problems so ill need to check in but i think this would be an awesom truck to do a cummins swap into for pulling stuff. What do yall think? oh yeah, couldn't find any rust so hopefully its cancer free.

well i know where a ramp bed is ;) if you are serous the next time i see one for sale i will let you know. ive probably seen 3 or 4 for sale but they where the long bed ramp type not over cab or crew cab,

IF everything works out and i end up with it i want to shorten it and put a hauler bed on it.i could have bought a 3500 with an aluminum hauler bed on it one time for $750 all it needed was tires and a fuel pump... couldn't sleep for a week over that one. would the tbi set up off a 454 work on a 350? i have a tbi350 i just built for my black dually .

I don't need it, I just want it.  LOL  I know where a long ramp Crew Cab is (which is what I want), I just refuse to go look at it, and I know how much they wanted for it.

Are you asking about a the actual TBI or?

What trans is on the TBI?  As long as it is not a 1991 4L80E you should be able to swap but you have to swap the ECM unless they are the same then just swap the PROM, but the ECM is faster.

if i get it my hopes are to shorten it and either put a swb bed on or a western hauler type bed on. also would like to do a cummins swap with a 5 or 6 speed

i like the cummins its just hard to find a 5 or 6 speed at a reasonable price. then you have to think about transfer case and if you stick with a auto it has to be strong
