What stick shift setup do you run?
« on: March 25, 2014, 03:46:48 pm »
I'm looking to swap my 700R4 for something of the 4 or 5 speed variety, with OD. I'd need something that would take a bit of abuse up to 350hp in my 350.
Also, is the bellhousing from a parts truck with a 6 cylinder/4 speed setup of any value to me in this project?

you want a trans from a v8 like a nv4500 or nv5600. its not really the hp that kills the trans its the tq you put threw them and making them work. i think the nv4500 changed up in 96? but i dont want to tell you lies so i wont go into detail about what you need. its been a while since i looked at all that stuff now all i have on my mind is cummins

The nv4500 changed to an internal slave in 96

Oh my God that 4500 sounds awesome! Will the bellhousing bolt up to a 350? or do I need something more specific for that?

They all have 5th gear to mainshaft mounting problems.  Don't tow in 5th gear and it shouldn't be an issue.
Bellhousing to engine bolt pattern is standard GM corporate for GM NV4500 transmissions.
93-95 have external slave & GM NV4500 specific transmission to bellhousing pattern.  The slave drops on the RH side and it can interfere with the CK RV square front driveshaft.
96-07 have internal slave & Dodge transmission to bellhousing bolt pattern.

4x4? 32 spline NP208 & RHD NP241 are a direct bolt on for CK RV squares. Anything else will need an adaptor.
