305 tear down, T5 swap.
« on: March 27, 2014, 02:58:38 am »
Well ya'll I'm new here but not new to chevy. I have a 1983 C10 1/2 ton. I figured that I would post about my 305. I've been fighting it for along time and I finally took it back out and tore it down. So far it looks okay but I will need to check for cracks. The main reason I am posting on here is about is swapping in a T5. I have a 700R4. I was was wondering if the shifter would hit the bench seat? I am also curious if a 6 speed would fit in it. I have read a little bit on here about this 700r4 to a t5 but am more curious about it.  Also would I need to make a plate for the fire wall to strengthen it up for the Hydrolic set up?

Any manual other than a 4 speed is going to be really close to the bench seat.  Even a 4 speed will be close enough to be annoying...
