EGR Controller Harness
« on: March 27, 2014, 01:11:55 pm »
I have an '86 Suburban, 350 and 700R-4, no ESC from the factory. I am removing my EGR system. I have an intake manifold without EGR. The EGR bleed harness connects to a pin on the locking torque converter connector. Should I just splice the EGR bleed harness together? This is the red connector, I believe it has a light blue and a yellow wire.
I have been lurking here for a while and recently retired and finally I'm finding some time to work on my projects. This is my first experience with a 700R-4.

Just to clarify what you want to do so everyone understands.  Are you wanting to do away with the lock up (tcc solenoid) feature of the 700r4, or are you wanting to lock it up consonantly ?
Bypassing the lock up feature most likely will create more heat in your transmissions if you plan on towing or climbing steeper hills/mountains a lot.  You will have to make sure your system is up to par and maintain it well.  Heat is the #1 auto transmission killer.
Or the 3rd option, are you looking for a way to still use the lock up feature without the EGR system ?
Also from what I have read (might be wrong) without the lock up feature, the 700r4 will not go into the OD  (4th) gear.

I want to have the lock-up feature and eliminate the EGR. I think the lock-up would help fuel economy and also save the transmission. Only other mods are an Edelbrock carb/manifold, RV(towing) cam and 3 inch exhaust from a later model Suburban.

I think this is the article you need to remove the EGR system by Mike Ervin, he removed his EGR system and did a write up on how to rewire so the 700R4 will still work properly.
After the parts list in the second paragraph he list reasons why you would need to do this, one being removing the EGR system.
Happy reading and let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the reference to Mike Ervins's article. I remember reading that some time ago. It makes more sense to me now that I have a little more hands on experience. I will be gathering the parts to do this mod and let you know.
