k10 vacuum feed
« on: March 27, 2014, 08:30:14 pm »
been posting lately about the heating controls in my truck, hopefully trying to get it figured out soon. the truck is a 1986 k10 with air conditioning. i need to re feed the a/c controls with a vacuum source. when the previous owned the truck they gutted everthing in the engine bay with the hopes of being a mud truck. well i snagged the truck up and want to be able to switch from vent to defrost or however it works. i am by know means a mechanic just trying to get it working so any info is appreciated. do these a/c controls get their vacuum from the vacuum advance on the distributor? i checked the diagrams and that's what it seems. well my buddy that put the motor in for me has a vacuum line going from the distributor to the aftermarket carb. can i tee off that line(the main feed) to the vacuum reservoir and then into the cab? thank you.

on the temperature control assembly that is vacuum fed, is it obvious which one is the input for vacuum feed? i have my vacuum routed i just need to connect it too the selector panel. i briefly looked at it and there was a few open ones on the rear but wondered if anyone off hand knew which would be the input or if it even says on the rear.

Look at page 1B-41 (Pg 104), figure 42 of the 1986 Service Manual for vacuum reservoir plumbing; and pages 1B-20 (Pg 83), figure 20 and 1B-42 (Pg 105), figure 44 for drawings of the vacuum selector switch.  Often, the vacuum switch ports are individually numbered if you look closely.  Some of the ports may need to be capped.
