Auto to sm465 swap

Hi everyone, a newbie to the site here. Have read lots of helpful info. I'm swapping out my 700r4  from my 91 blazer for a sm465 with a np 205 out of an 86 one ton dump. My question involves driveshafts and universal joints. Does the one ton use bigger u joints? The 205 had a carrier and i would like to eliminate that but am i gonna have to go with totally custom shafts or is there any earlier model vehicles that will work with my set up? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

yes you will need bigger u joints, you might be able to swap yokes but you should need new/used driveshafts. but whats up with the 700? it does have od unlike the 465. but the 465 is funner to drive ;)

I figured i would need some driveshaft mods. I'll check with a local junkyard about swappin the yokes. The 700 works fine, i'm just building a toy and will mostly be staying local with it so the 465 should be fun.

i would run the 700 till she blows then. just see what you can get away with (playing around) the weakest part of them imo is 3rd and 4th. i have a 4l60 now behind my cummins. 3rd and 4th are gone, i mean nothing at all. yet we can put around the farm and to the gas station in 1st and 2nd just fine. even put her in a truck pull and she moved the sled in 1st.

You can get hybrid u joints to prevent changing yokes . You can get a 1310 to a 1410 etc like Irish said you will most likely have to have new derive shafts. The np205 and am465 is the shortest trans/t case combo that came in these trucks. My 700 held up fine but I never got above 50 mph usually always in mud. I did install a huge trans cooler as well though

Any ideas where i can find the 1310 to 1410 ujoints? Not having much luck finding that combo. Did find Quad 4x4 in montana that has a boatload of 205 parts though

     I do not know if one is made, though you could call a drive line shop or someone like Denny's Driveshafts and see if they can make you one.

i got the joint i needed from napa. i think it was part #348 wich is 1310/1350 so that may have been the u joint size on my 14 bolt. my advice would be to measure what size both u joints are (link posted below) and post the results here and ill see if i can hook you up with a part # for what you need.

i would go with winky on things like this and go to NAPA for the combo parts. they can still use and know how to use the paper books

If the folks at the Napa are old timers just em for a jump joint, they should know what you are talking about. If Napa can't get one (unlikely) there are some local establishments around here (Sadler Powertrain, Mutual Wheel, etc.) that deal with medium and heavy truck parts, I would expect there would be some of those type shops local to you also.

I got these part numbers off the Spicer site...these are Spicer part numbers not retail part numbers although they would be very similar through Napa. http://spicerparts.com/products/driveshaft/automotive/other-components

those Spicer numbers dont cross but i found these for NAPA
1330 /1350 = 5-648X
1310 /1350 = 5-460X
1310 /1330 = 5-134X

The closest i could find is a 1310/1350 combination.  I called several shops within a 50 mile radius. I ended up ordering a 1310 yoke kit from Quad 4x4, and sourced a longer shaft that i can have cut to length after i do the swap. Thanks for all your help.
