Half ton van front suspension - the same as half ton truck?
« on: April 08, 2014, 06:53:48 pm »
I have a '92 half ton chevy van that has some damaged control arms on the passenger side. They look identical to the '73-'87 half ton chevy truck front suspension to me - can anyone confirm this? It would make my junkyard crawl a whole lot easier.

I don not know for sure, but I just did a search on 2 different auto parts sites for suspension parts and the G10 did not match any of the C10's parts.  So I am going to say no, but I could be wrong.  You could go into your local part store and give them the years for both and see if they pull up the same part number.

Thanks for the reply, I did the same thing as well today and I did confirm that they are all the same. There is a different upper control arm and knuckle for the half ton trucks (and vans) with a heavy duty brake, but that's the only variable. Upper and lower control arms are the same between the G10 and C10.

Numbers sometimes lie. A hood for a 1956 chevy with the V8 emblem will have a different part number then the same hood with a straight 6 emblem. If one of the parts you're looking at had a simple hole for a wire clip the numbers could be different.I've found a few parts guys who know this and are willing to pull parts for me so I can do a visual comparison.

If you go on rockauto.com and check the part number for an uppper control arm for a half ton chevrolet pickup ('73-'87) you'll find out it's the same part number for a half ton van from '73 all the way until they changed the bodystyle in the mid-90s. The lower is also the same. The difference between the vans and the pickups is the track width (different k member) and the tie rod assembly.
