OEM Exhaust parts
« on: April 08, 2014, 10:45:20 pm »
Need to change out the exhaust system on my 1980 K10 with a 350 engine. This is a full size pick up. It now has replacement dual exhaust that need to be changed out. I want to go back to the factory single exhaust using the Y pipe exhaust. It would appear from the brackets that the tailpipe exited out the passenger side just behind the rear tire. My questions are did this vehicle come with a single outlet muffler or a dual outlet muffler?? When I look at Walkers web site and others they show it both ways and they also show it exiting on the drivers side which I am sure is wrong.

Where is a good place to go (online possibly) for OEM exhaust parts???

Thanks in advance for any help.

In our tech section, the GM Heritage link is included, on page 8 for K10-20's is listed "Exhausted System=Single;Aluminized".
Starting on page 23 The exterior pictures start showing the exit for the exhaust behind the drivers tire, but I could not find anything written that states all were single exit after drivers side.
GM Wholesale Direct sells OEM part and aftermarket parts.

My 83 still has factory exhaust (for the moment), it's y-pipe into cat, single pipe on driver's side, dual outlet muffler

Bake & Tim..thankyou for your direction. I appreciate it. I have to crawl under the truck again tomorrow but I am sure I have a factory hanger on the passenger side that supports the tailpipe after the muffler and in front of the rear axle. There is a universal hanger on the driver side in the same location that looks like it was added. I need to crawl under there again and verify.

Again thank you for taking the time to respond.

Walker and Hooker are the closest bet.  Most later 1981+ trucks were single exit, some of the earlier ones with a Cat (1975 and later ) were Y into single and split to 2 rear exit.  Only the pre 75 were actually offered with Dual if I remember correctly.
