Interior Color Changes Advice
« on: April 09, 2014, 10:09:04 am »
86 2Dr Silverado 2wd. My Exterior color is Apple Red but my interior is a clashing color of Maroon. I'm going to completely changed everything out and when I do, I'm changing the color. But what I need is some advice. I would like to go with blacks & grays. Now at the moment I want to keep my bench seat (maroon). It's in great shape so there's no need to change it, but I will replace the seat belts, all the trim molding, headliner, carpet, door panels and dash pad.
So what I would like to get from all you is some advice on incorporating the new black & gray parts around the maroon seat color and exterior Apple Red

I plan on doing the same as I have a red truck with the red interior also….

I need new carpet, so I will probably change that from red to black.
I need new seat covers, so I will go with black or black/red.  I'll probably keep the red belts for cost savings.
I will probably pull the door panels and paint them black and maybe stain the inserts or keep them red.
I need a new dash, so I will probably go black.
I might paint the other interior plastic black, too.
I need a new headliner…probably black.

I guess it will just have to be to the best of our tastes/visual appearances. Hopefully, I can come up with something that looks uniform/visually appealing.

But, my plan is to not spend much money…only replacing what needs replacing and painting what I can.

This is what my brother wants me to do, go all black. I know I don't want a black carpet, shows too much.
I'm thinking a gray headliner & carpet. All the molding & dash pad black. Door panels black but maybe put a gray strap, armrest and the lower door carpet.. Just not sure if the gray headliner would look ok with the black molding. And then there's the seat belt color ( gray or black ). Sunvisors ( gray or black )?

Are you planning on keeping the seat the factory Burgandy permanently?  I don't think the Black and red and gray would look good.
BTW all the newer trucks with Black seats have beige a-pillars and headliners..
I think to tie all this in you need something black or gray on the outside..  To many colors on the inside is going to make it busy in my opinion.

I probably will keep the seats, they are in good shape ( very good shape) so I can't see changing tht out. So are you saying all black if I keep the seats? This is what I'm looking for, is opinions from you guys that have been around these trucks awhile. Throw some suggestions my way😄

I personally think you need to go all one color on the interior.  I think if you start trying to put together a black/gray look it's just going to look too random.  And if you're keeping the maroon seat then I can't see it looking very good in the end no matter what.  If the seats good then just recover it and sell the maroon cover to someone to negate a bit of the cost.

I'm in the same boat.  I plan to eventually paint mine blue and want to do a gray interior. Mine is all black right now.

Are you leaving the lower dash Apple red?  I personally would say do completely gray, leave the lower dash red for some two tone and maybe throw in some tiny red accents to tie in with the red lower dash and exterior color.

Yes the lower dash will stay the apple red. I personally would like all gray, even the seats. It's my partner who wants to keep the seats Marron. Got to keep peace in the household.
I will admit I would be nervous about painting the molding if I went with gray. Everything else you can get in colors except those.

Painting the molding is not big deal..

The image here has been recolored and you can't tell.  GM did this when cars came in with replacements needed..
