That makes me curious if anyone managed to stuff a full-size Cummins into a pickup truck body. And have it be semi-functional.

i have heard from a buddy whos friend up in new york put a cat motor into his truck. pretty sure he said even with the body lift it was still stick out the bottom of the frame pretty well

I don't know how reliable my sources are for this, but I've heard that the Cummins motors were so incredibly heavy that they quickly wore out the front suspension on those Dodges. Is there any truth to that?

I'm not faulting Dodge nor Cummins no matter. I'm glad that Dodge decided to use a proven, sturdy diesel in it's pickups. And I'm glad that Cummins didn't make a light-weight, failure prone disposable motor.

I'm appalled by some of the tiny gasoline engines so many motor home manufacturers put in their RVs.

When I was looking into buying a first gen dodge cummins (well a 93 model) and from all the forms and such I never saw a problem with wait on the front suspension. what I did see is when people swaped the 6bt into other trucks (mostly bronco II's rangers' explores etc) that was a problem.

the cummins weights about 1100lbs i think the 454 weights about 700lbs. dodge truck's front ends are known to crap out even with the gas motors. but yeah that extra weight doesn't help any, have you rode in a dodge gaser vs a cummins. they both will beat the crap out of you. but you would be surprised like adrima said about the people who have a 1500 or less and want a 5.9. why not just put a 4bt (4 cylinder cummins) in their truck, they just want to say i have a cummins and i cant blame them lol

     Now that is truth right there.  Dodge's are the worst for people with low back problems.

yap, would not want a 6bt in something less than a full ton. one reason I did not go and get a dodge I have a bad back. even my dad's 2000 1500 sucked on my bad (with a mag v8)

Took a 2002 dodge 2500 with a Cummins up north. Me and my buddy had to stop every hour don't know if its the way the truck rode or we're getting old. Would like to blame it on the truck. Not to mention if you any fat on your chest you will need a support bra

I own a 02 2500 Dodge 4-wheel drive with the anemic 360. It rides like a truck no doubt. But it steers as well as any truck I have ever owned. The lightweight D60 in the rear is a joke. It has the name of a Dana 60 but it's not even as strong as a corporate 10 bolt. It's had the pinion bearing replaced at least three times now. It's pitiful. And we don't load it down at all and the trailer we pull is only 3000lbs. Plus, for being only 12 years old it's rusting out from the inside. The reason I love it? Room, it had so much more room in the front of the cab than most of the others when we bought it in 03. It is the quad cab model btw. The fuel milage is beyond terrible for that year truck, barely ever exceed 9 MPG.

Rub it in! My BIL bought a 06 new with the cummins. With some minor chip tuning he was making near 20 all the time until he hooked his 32 foot campar on back and it went down to about 16. 

Dodge gas engines never were known for mileage though. Maybe the newer ones have changed.
