« on: April 23, 2014, 01:39:42 pm »
Hello,
I am lowering my c10 1985 and wanted the quickest route 1.5" to 2" max what would be the easiest route?

Front Spindles?
Rear Shackles?

Thanks for your time...

quickest and easiest would be springs in the front and shackles in the rear

spindles would be easier and better than springs. Cut or change the springs and you've changed the anlge at which your control arms are sitting as well as your bumpsteer. A spindle changes nothing more than the height at which your hub bolts to the spindle. No change in control arm position, toe, caster/camber or shock length. Modify the spring and you have to adjust it all. Shackles is definitely the easiest route for no more drop than you are looking for.

what you say about the spindles is true its by far the better way to go. springs can be quick and easy but you can also run into problems like you said.

im read alot about spindles and from what people say you have to watch what brand you get if you are running factory wheels

You are absolutely correct on that. I put a set of Classic performance parts drop spindles from summit racing on my truck last night. The thing to watch here is that if you go over a 2.5" drop is that you cant run a 15" wheel without modifying the lower control arm. Specifically the lip at the outer edge of the ball joint has to be ground off. Now this part is just my opinion but grinding away the stamped part of a control arm right next to a pressed in ball joint is just bad form, a lot can go wrong here. If you require more than a 2.5" drop then you need to think about wheel choice etc. Like i said i just did mine last night, and i'm not quite happy with it. Needs another inch or so, and I'll get that by cutting just a slight bit of spring.
