5.3 motor mounts not linning up
« on: May 06, 2014, 10:26:55 pm »
Hey guys I am new to the site, I have a problem I hope someone has already ran into. I am doing a 5.3 swap in my 84 c10 crew cab. I am using Morose adapter plates with the factory clam shell mounts, I have the drivers side bolt in but the pass side will not go down far enough, any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Are the adapters on the correct side of the block? I have seen people do that and have issues. I haven't used the moroso ls stuff, but if it is decent quality it should fit. It still uses the rubber mount right? If so, are the mounts still good?

At this point I wish I had the mounts on the wrong side lol. I double checked that, I did change one of the mounts and it helped a little but still not enough to get them lined up. The passenger side mount sits all the way down on the mount and the whole is not even close to lining up. Thought about leveling the motor and drilling a new hole in the clam shell mount.

I always use new rubber mounts on both sides, a partially collapsed mount can cause fitment issues. Have you tried loosening the bolts holding the mounts to the engine and the bolts holding the mount to the frame? See if you can wiggle it into fitting, then tighten?

You have one side set in too deep, I am guessing you don't have a bolt in the side that is down?
Lift the motor, put a bolt in the good side and maneuver the high side.  This is normal for even a non LS.

Take a good look around and make sure everything clears. The dirtydingo mounts I use let you adjust the engine 3" front to back, so I leave them loose and get it all aligned. Are you dropping in a longblock or is it complete with accessories?

It has all the accessories on it and no tranny. I'm thinking about shoot canning the moroso mounts and going with the dirty dingo. Something just isn't right.

I did the same with trans dapt mounts on a pro street s10 build I did. Crap welds, cheap steel and I doubt they were welded in a jig. Neither one fit on the included rubber mount and both broke prying the tabs apart far enough to fit. Bought the dingo stuff and haven't looked back. They held together in a 408 stroker prostreet s10, 13-1 and 3 stages of 250 shots, a turbo g-body putting down 36 lbs of boost, and a 71 firebird supercharged that ran 7.3 in the 1/4. I have had good luck with dirty dingo.

Still say what you have will work fine, You're just setting one side in too deep.  I would set it in while still lifted and drop it straight down as possible and if one gets close then put a bolt in and adjust accordingly.

I agree with kaos. They should wiggle into place, it may just take some work.

Can you post a pic of both sides when it is in so we can see what you see ?

Thanks for the help guys, got it figured out.  The dang adapters were marked wrong,  driver's side was stamped PS and passengers side was stamped DS. She's sitting down in there like it's supposed to be now. Just got to run my fuel lines and hook up some wires now.
