700r4 pan removal
« on: May 26, 2014, 09:07:17 pm »
I have an 84 c10 with a 350 engine backed by a 700r4. Neither engine or trans are original to the truck.

I recently swapped the holley carb out for an edelbrock and yesterday I was attempting to install the tvmadeez kit, as the tv cable was never set correctly by the p.o.

Is there an easier way to drop the pan than removing the crossmember? I've tried pulling/ shaking, and even jacked up the tailstock a bit for clearance, but the back of the pan hangs up 1/2 to 1/4 of an inch on the crossmember no matter which way I try.

as best I can tell it's an 84 block and an 89 trans.

thanks for any help.

First off welcome to the site.  So it can not come off because it hangs up on the cross member.  Have you tried to lift the engine a little bit to give you the room if you do not want to remove the cross member.
Personally I would think it would be easiest to support the back of the engine, so that you could remove the cross member to get trans pan off.
