Steering box woes
« on: June 04, 2014, 03:27:50 pm »
So I have owned the  75 k 20 since last august I have only been driving it daily since January 1st since then I have been just keeping it on the road and safe as I can make it roll down the roads. The po cobbled this thing together.I noticed that on Monday my steering started getting a little sloppy! So I drove about 6 miles to pick up supplies went to pull out of the parking lot at the paint store and bang . two of the three bolts ( supposed to be 4 ) that hold the steering box to the frame snapped. All I could do is put another bolt into it to get it to steer so I could go to work a mile or so down the road so here is the steering box with the 2 broken bolts
The frame looks goodhere is the problem the spacers were never installed with the bolts1 spacer and 3 bolts I have crossmember spacers from my old 84 that are the same size hopefully I can get the broken bolts out of the steering box .I am also installing new draglinks off to the parts store I go!
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
new draglinks I had to go to auto zone and buy made in China duralast parts but I can not wait for 4 days for advance to get them I have to go to work i n the morning and yeah its raining lol when it rains it pours the broken bolts came out with ease

Well that is good news that the broken bolts came out easily, make sure you use grade 8 bolts and this should not happen again.

Bake they were grade 8 just no spacers and one was 1/4 inch too its back together thank goodness to my trusty underhood light   I want to order the box brace also and do cross over steering with sway bar link disconnects and add 36s for off road use only
