HELLO! From Colorado.
« on: June 17, 2014, 12:29:54 am »
Needed a truck for home improvements and to earn my man card back from my coworkers after buying a 2014 VW Passat TDI. So I traded my old 93 Wrangler for this ugly 1973 Chevy C 20. It has a 400 sbc and 4x4. I've only managed to ID the Xfer case as an NP203 so far and it has locking hubs. No idea how this system works as of yet but I'm sure more searches and reading and it will all come together. There was some pretty ugly/cracked manifolds on it and Its currently in my garage soaking in WD40 so I can get the remaining bolts out. I also popped off the valve covers to see what I was getting myself into exactly and to my surprise it looked absolutely amazing in there. No sludge or anything. Recognized the 333882 heads as the "best" of the worst, so those are going to remain for now. The wife has me on a little bit of a budget here for this thing so Headers are the first thing I'm doing. It has Q-jet 7045229 and searching that was a stock one for a 75 truck with a 400 sbc. I noticed my plugs looked a mix of overheated or running rich based off charts online, So I may have to rebuild this thing or buy an intake/carb kit. Anyways Thats where I'm at so far and hopefully the pic shows up below. Thanks for the useful information you've already provided me.

Welcome to the site from Alaska.  I like the camo paint scheme.  The truck looks to be in good shape for its age.

One thing:  Since it's a 4x4 it's a K-series; 4x2 is a C-series truck.

I realize this too, however it was modified at some point to be as the Title and VIN match up to a C series. I did see on one place that C series could have 4x4 but that was one place only...

The title is always going to say it is a C series, because it started out that way.  Someone just turned into a 4wd, not uncommon.

So if I refer to my truck as a K20 it makes sense to everyone here then. Gotcha. I'm tightening up the header bolts today and verifying I reconnected everything properly before I put the spark wires and turn the key. Going cheap with purple hornies muffler headers for the time being. Anything has to be better than the cracked manifolds and straight pipes right? Thanks for the info as usual guys. :D
