Should I paint new gas tanks?

Just got 2 new Spectra Premium 16g tanks.  I am wondering if I should paint them. Some folks say these are galvanized, but nothing I have found from Spectra says they are. In any event the tanks are coated in an oily film from the factory. If I do paint them I figure I might degrease them and use an undercoating or Eastwood makes a product called Tank Tone that I might use. What do you guys think?

Verify from the manufacture, they should be able to tell you.  If it has an oily residue it leads me to believe it is not galvanized.  If it is galvanized read up on coating them.  Galvanized metals need to be aged prior to painting and make sure you use a coating that is designed to paint it.  What you don't want is to use a paint that would allow moisture to penetrate the paint and rot the tank out.  It would be better if you left them alone.  If it is just a steel tank with a rust preventative I would find a good 2K epoxy, get a marine grade.  Tanks will outlast the truck.  My $.02

Don't paint them.  If they are galvanized, painting them will SPEED UP the rusting process.

Spectra advertises them as corrosion resistant ni terne steel. Spectra GM11B are the tanks I got.

Truck is garaged in the winter and I don't go offroading so it may not be a big deal.
