accelerator cable

76 Stepside with 350 and 700R4 tranny...non electronic type.....while trying to adjust my TV cable (TV made EZ from Bowtie Overdrive) when i pushed the accelerator pedal i did not hear the ratcheting noise that i should at the TV cable ..but...then i go under the hood and push throttle valve and i get the "clicks" it seems as though the throttle cable is not rotating the throttle valve on the carb like it should ....will look at it further tomorrow.
I was looking at some older posts and i understand there are different length cables....mine may be stretched or something.

there are different lengths but if you have 3" of pedal travel the end of the cable will travel 3" as well. make sure everything is connected where it should be. who put the 700r4 in the truck?

i know how to set the TV cable its just that the accelerator cable is not rotating the throttle on carb as far as it needs to be. I dont know who put the 700R in the vehicle it was done long before i got the truck but......the truck came with a different in take which was taller than the one i have on there now...and.......there was spacer plate that the older carb sat on...so with the old setup being higher than the one i have now i am not surprised the accelerator cable worked fine for the old setup.....i need to find a somewhat shorter accelerator cable.

A shorter cable is not going to make a difference. If everything is setup correctly, the cable will travel the same distance as the pedal travels. Is the cable properly held in place at the carburetor? If the cable housing is allowed to move at the carb, it will not operate the throttle properly.

This is your best bet for a first step in diagnosing the problem.
