cab swap
« on: July 14, 2014, 02:08:25 pm »
I have a good 77 4x4 chassis and a very good 74 2x4 cab.
I know about the difference in the tunnel but if I replace the tunnel with the 4x4, what else would I have to do to install the 2x4 cab?

Use the cab mount that go with the year of the cab, I have both those years and I have never compared to see if the cab mounts were the same.  I do know when swapping cabs you need to use the mounts of the year of the cab.

Actually bake on the 73~80 trucks you need to use the cab mounts that go with the specific frame you are using. Year/model, etc.

Case in point: the C10 cab mounts are specific to that model and won't work with the K-10 frame. If he uses '77 K-10 mounts he will be gtg with the '74 cab.

Starting with the 1981 model year all cab mounts are the same across all models.

1994 Chevy K-2500 4x4 C6P 5.7/4L80E

I thought the cabs mounts were different (where the mount sits on the cab actually), not the frame mount area's.  So I have been wrong this whole time ?
Ok, just looked it up and I was wrong, Engineer is right, you have to use the cab mounts for the donor frame.  I will have to try to store that in my brain now and throw out the other.   >:(
