Is this likely a rare/special option truck?
« on: July 14, 2014, 02:54:06 pm »
I was passed on some pictures of a truck I have a chance at buying (for now.) the truck itself is in primer, but, looks to originally have been red paint. Here's the kicker. I'm thinking it may be a Spirit of '76 truck, but I always thought those only came in white???

Here is a seat from a spirit of '76 that was in the special editions section of the 73-87 site:

Notice the lower seat cusion divided into 9 squares, the 3 center stripes,  the blue and zigzag patterning, and that the bolsters on the edges of the seat as well as the two outer edging sections on either side of the three center stripes match the door panel/paint color - white.

Now look at the attached seat picture for the truck in question.

Same 9 panel treatment of the lower cushion, same blue and zigzag fabric, same center stripes... only difference is the edge bolsters and the two sections of fabric on either side of the center strips are done up in a red/maroon, which matches this truck's door panels/paint color.

Could it be a different color spirit of 76? Something else? Anyone have any ideas?

I may take a look to explore for curiosity sake, but I also wonder what if any collector value this truck might have if redone...

Do you know any history of the truck in question ?  Could it be that someone liked the spirit interior so much they tried to copy it.

I have a hard time relating to that seat...even for 1976, WOW! Is all I can say. Can you imagine all of the different people that seat had to go past to become a reality? They had some REAL crazy patterns, colors, ect. over that timeframe. WOW!
Does anyone know, did those trucks come out of the factory or was that a "Dealer Package" done up by Trimline or somebody? Lorne

I was born in '76, am a die hard patriot and this thread has me very interested. Sorry I can't help with the question but thank you for posting it. Anyone have pictures of these "spirit of '76" trucks you speak of? My trucks a '77 and I like to think it was manufactured same summer I was born (august 76) making us the exact same age.

You would have really found my 72 Cheyenne K20 a hoot.  White vinyl that had a pattern stamped in it that matched the door panels with a green/white checkerboard cloth seating area.  In a movie that Sandra Bullock was in, she was driving that era Chevy with that seat...

I have a 76 with the same seat in it.  It is not a spirit of 76 but the design is the same.  It is called Red Knit vinyl trim on the spid.  Here is a pic of my seat:
