454 Clutch Question
« on: July 29, 2014, 08:40:02 pm »
I recently bought an 84 GMC C35 Crew cab dually.  The 454 in it has about 10k on the rebuild,  the TH400 has about 8k on its rebuild.

My 74 is no longer my daily driver,  and I want to pull the 350 out and drop it in the dually to try and coax some mpg's out of the 6 wheeler. That leaves me a 454 with no home. Hmmm...

My research has shown that the 454 takes a 12" Clutch and flywheel.  Can I run the 11" setup that is hooked to my 350 now? My budget is tight right now, and I'd love to be able to reuse parts.

I don't think I would.

Even the 350s that came in heavy duty applications had the 12" clutch.

One other thing, the 350 flywheel will not work with the 454. The 454 requires a special externally balanced flywheel.
