Compressor(AC compressor?)
« on: August 06, 2014, 12:22:28 pm »
The truck is a 1980 gmc w/ an older crate 350(targetmaster I'm guessing from the #s on the heads and what I looked up).

Anyway, on the driver's side of the belt system I have a compressor that has a hose running over to the AC stuff(which doesn't work). The nut that is welded onto one of the brackets that you slide the compressor on to make tension on the belt has bad threads in it I think. I can't get a bolt into it straight and when i do it won't tighten up. So I was thinking of just removing the compressor seeing as I don't care about the AC right now and just want to get the motor running and driving before I worry about all of that.

Can I just remove the compressor+belt and be done with it? or does it work other things aside from the AC?

Hopefully that makes sense. I can get pictures if needed

I'd be very interested to hear answers on this as well...I removed mine based on a friend's advice.  And my truck seems to be having some issues.

As long as it's the AC compressor and not the SMOG pump, then it should only help performance. Far as I know there aren't any vacuum lines to it.

Alrighty, thanks for the quick reply. I cut the belt off and left it sitting there just for today. Then I started having the carb shoot gas out haha. One thing after another =p I think I have some solutions to the carb/no start though.
