How to remove vent windows seals to replace
« on: August 07, 2014, 09:55:19 am »
I ordered new vent window seals for my 86 c10. I've never replaced weatherstripping before. How do I get the old seals out first off, and once off what do I do to install the new ones? Below is the link for the part in question. Thank you all for the help.

It's a pretty time-consuming job, and you'll need some special tools AND rivets to replace the pivot rivets in the windows. You need to work on a good sturdy workbench. I had a video and will see if I can post it- done by a professional restorer- to show you how it's done correctly.  I've done mine and I must say- I hope I don't have to do another set... ;D
The door panel must be removed. The main window run and seals must be removed. The main window can stay, but I took mine out to make things easier. The window regulator and motor must come out. The vent is held in with two screws found at the top of the door frame. Then the vent can be removed and taken to the bench for replacement of the seal. The window sash actually has to come apart to replace the seal, and it's riveted together.  I just got called to dinner, but will see if that video is in my favorites and post it. Get a cup of coffee. It's a long video. The vent replacement seals are done essentially the same way on our trucks.

Thank you sir. I finally found some videos from 1aauto on youtube that show me a little bit. Not sure if that's what you are referring to. Might replace a few more things in the door panel if i have to rip it apart that much to replace the vent window seals.

If you're like some of us, a few things will turn into a major re-do. Mine started  like this

This is from the company that makes the kits we sell:  It is for a 73-80, but it is basically the same.  If yours is one piece style is will be a little simpler.
