Carb trouble

Hello I have a 1978 chevy cheyenne with a rochester monojet and it seems to be having troubles when I'm driving with the motor cold and sometimes it happens when it's warm too. The issue is it seems to stutter very badly when you press on the throttle I adjusted the idle and got the solenoid to work and I have a idle of 850 out of gear and 500 ish in gear and I have yet to adjust the mixture on the fuel due to not having a vacume gauge. Could this be the issue ? Thanks for any help in advance!


Or could I just not be letting it warm up enough? It warms up for about 2,min and had a automatic choke

Do you get a strong squirt from the accelerator pump?

I don't know but I talked to the guy on my street and he said the float level could be to high is this true?

Remove the air cleaner.  With the ignition and engine OFF, look down the throat of the carburetor with a flashlight and operate the throttle by hand.  Does a steady stream of fuel squirt into the center of the bore every time you open the throttle?  You should be able to do this about four times before you drain the carburetor of fuel.

one thing to check, i think that has HEI distributor with vacuum advance? if it does what happens sometimes is there is 2 wires in dist that go from the pickup coil to the module. every time the vacuum advance moves it wiggles those wires. then they start to break. and when you use throttle and the advance moves they loose contact and cause a bad stumble. i would unhook the vacuum advance line and plug it and try driving just to see. or you can pull cap and tug on the wires. they always crack right where they go into pickup coil. but keep in mind if that is problem they will a lot of time break completly when you touch them, then its dead. just one idea to check.

Sounds like the choke isn't working.
