1987 frame under a 1986 Extended cab - Cab, opinions needed
« on: August 15, 2014, 07:52:15 am »
Wanted everyone’s opinion on the restoration of my new project. I have a Cab only with the interior 1986 Extended Cab. From what the VIN says it was a C20 truck. I have an opportunity to buy a 1987 C10 parts truck long bed for cheap and was going to use the frame from it and bed to help rebuild my new junkier as my wife says.

My question is would you try to restore this back to somewhat original with a 1986 C20 frame or just find whatever works within the year range and go with that? I don’t have the original drive train, so making it original in my eyes will never be.

My other question, is there any difference on a 1987 frame from the rest of the years that might not work or this 1986 cab?

Thanks for the replies and opinions.

I do not know the answer to your question with a positive reply, so you will have to wait until the plp that have extended cab's see this, but in the mean time, in out tech section we have listed for all our viewing pleasures the GM Pickup Manuals that do list in them all the dimensions for all the different year trucks.
At the least if you do not get your question answered you will have some fun finding out the stats on your new project.

Choptop is the site's resident extended cab expert.

Search for him, and I also believe he has a web site dedicated to information on the square body extended cabs.

The frame will be the same between 87 and 86.  Subtle differences on the EFI versus carb on the fuel lines.

Donor truck picked up this past weekend. Frame looks great and should work perfect on getting my restoration started.
Thanks for the input guys.
