Late Model Tahoe 60/40
« on: August 30, 2014, 10:56:54 am »
I came across a Craigslist ad for these seats back in March and picked them up. They are a second row 60/40 seats out of an 07-13 Tahoe,  and are PD take outs. I got them for $100.

They are brand new,  and with all the factory stuff, they weigh a ton. Well,  the factory mounts were removed in short order.

This lightened them up quite a bit, and from there they went into the closet until this last weekend.

I needed to cut the factory pivot brackets and supports off of the bottoms, but I managed to lose the pinion gear of my roto-zip right angle head, and the piece isn't made anymore,  so there they sat. I finally brought my angle grinder home from work last weekend, but the switch on it went bad very suddenly.

On Monday I borrowed a grinder, came home and got the 40 side relieved of its brackets.

I killed off my last cutoff wheel on this seat.  Well tomorrow is another day.

Tomorrow turned into Thursday,  as often happens with me, but I got the 60 side de-bracketed.

I've had a plan in mind all along of how to mount these in my 74. I'm going to take two sets of bench seat sliders, and a set of suburban bucket perches to make it happen. These seats total up about 5 or 6 inches narrower than the factory bench. I'm planning on getting the seats mounted, then making a piece to fill the gap, and wrap it with the gm ebony vinyl.

This is where I'm at right now with the project.  I did go looking for perches and sliders last weekend, but the junkyard I went to was slim pickins and I didn't find anything useable. I'm spending this weekend doing family stuff, so next weekend I'm hitting a different yard or two and will find what I need.

Do you mean 5"/6" narrower from door to door ?  So you plan on making something like a center console then ?

Yes door to door. Sorry for any confusion.  I was thinking about making piece to fill the gap. I don't think a console really,  since it would be out of easy reach. I'm not totally sure what it will be yet.  I may pull the bench out of the truck today and set the Tahoe seats in just to get an idea of how they'll look.
