Instrument cluster feed question

On the plug itself with the key "on" I get power to the blinkers (11 & 12) and 4,6, and 16 which are the pink with black tracer wires.

None of the other wires have power, is this normal?

My fuel gauge works and voltmeter, but my temp and oil pressure are pegged to the right. I do have new sending units for both gauges.

Forgot to ad, its a 1985 K5

     Are you looking at a wiring diagram with numbers included ?  If so can you post what you are looking at so we can see and make sure we all are talking about the same thing ?

Im getting the numbers off of the cluster feed plug itself.  I can't seem to find a good wiring diagram

     Look at the wiring diagrams we have in the tech section and compare.

Hey Steve.  Look at the factory 1985 Wiring Manual in our Technical Pages.  I have never encountered a wiring diagram that correlates directly to the cluster pin position numbering on the connector.  When the harness plug is not connected to the cluster, only the pnk/blk ignition feeds should indicate 12v power, and only while ignition is ON.  Also, the gray cluster wire will read up to 12 volts while the dash lights are illuminated, depending on the dash dimmer position.  Once the harness is plugged in, you might measure <12 volts on some of the remaining pins due to feed-through from the cluster components.  The black wires should measure zero at all times, because they are ground.

Hey Rich,

I did look at the wiring diagrams, forgot about those (thanks bake74).  The more I studied the diagrams and thought about it, it makes sense that some of the wires (pink/blk tracer, gray and the blues which operate the turn signals) would have power and others won't until its plugged in.

I think my wiring is good, just repairing PO mess.
