Standard Brakes - 84 Chevrolet C10

currently running hydroboost in order to clear valve covers of my Cadillac motor.
having to remove the booster in order to lash valves is a pain, along with the extra hoses.

anyone running standard brakes on these trucks? where did you get the master cylinder?

My 86 C10 came with manual brakes, I am sure you can get the correct master from any auto parts store

Can't you use flex hoses at the MC?

Then you just have 2 bolts

I've seen off road only squarebody trucks with lots of frame flex use the braided steel flex hoses from the MC to the frame
The frame and body twist so much that the stock hard lines break off where they thread into the MC



Also google at the power brake setup on a early (66-77) Bronco

THey have a bellcrank pivot that relocates the booster at a 45 degree angle to clear the valve cover

Might work on your truck with a little fab


What kind of engine you running  ?
A 500?
Or a north star ?

Roundhouse, I don't understand what you mean by flex hoses at the master cylinder, im trying to ditch the power booster and use a standard master cylinder.

Its a 507 Cadillac and no matter how much I angle the booster it will not come close to enough room, these engines are wide and I am running 3 1/2" valve covers to clear the shaft rockers.

Zieg85, does your master cylinder just use the two top studs as opposed to the 6 used when a power booster is used?

Roundhouse, I now understand what you were getting too, I figured there was similar bracket for the master cylinder that the booster used.

with that being said I wonder If I could use the master cylinder off the booster.. I'm assuming the manual master cylinder has a bigger bore or something along those lines.

The manual MC is slightly different but not much

Did you take a look at the early bronco bracket?

that is a good idea for swaps ill keep that in mind.

as for me I doubt my cam would pull enough vacuum to bother with.

FWIW, manual brakes are not that much harder to stop than power assist.  I like the manual feel better and 1 less thing to go wrong.  It is so much easier change a steering column with manual as well...

Sold my last extra about a year ago.  They are really hard to find but I know of one, I will see if the guy wants to sell it.
