4.1 250 intake/carb help 1983 gmc truck
« on: October 06, 2014, 06:27:24 pm »
A couple of questions.  I have the 4.1 , and I want to remove the smog pump, but the adjustment for the belt is on the smog pump.  I have done some searching, but have not found a delete pulley, so I'm wondering what I should do?
Secondly, the stock carb is fubar at this point.  I was looking at a 2 barrel holley.  Can someone point me in the direction of an intake to go with this?  I'm assuming the stock intake isn't going to provide enough airflow for a 2 barrel.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rebuild the stock carb, they are pretty simple.  Adding a 2 bbl is going to add parts and complexity for no reason.
why are you wanting to remove the smog pump?  Can you not just remove it and the belt work.  I don't remember how the belts were routed...

Do you know what kind of carb came stock on those trucks so I know which rebuild kit to buy?
The power steering is on the same belt with the smog pump, and the smog pump has a slide on it for the belt adjustment

Just rebuild what you have.
Does the PS not have any adjustment?

I just resolved that problem, you need to find the brackets from an older 250, probably 81-2, these will mount the power steering pump above the alternator , and have the adjustment you want. I'm having alittle trouble with vacuum routing due to fact I didn't take enough pic's before disassembling them.  good luck, Don

Where did you end up finding the older style brackets?

I found the brackets in a bone yard,  still would like some good pic's of the vacuum lines, the carb has alot.
