What is this?

So I was under the truck a few times this week and saw this rod on the exhaust manifold. Let's just say every time I put it back in it just pops out again and I was wondering what it is and do I need it in?
The images I posted have the rod and the vacuum thing it comes from.

No images are showing.
Your description matches an EFE valve and actuator. Generally,
EFE isn't necessary
unless you live in frigid cold climates.

It is probably one of these styles:
Go to an auto parts house that sells Dorman or Motormite and find the "Help" section (a wall display with miscellaneous bubble-pack small parts). Look for an assortment of the foldover clips pictured. Or, ask for Dorman 118-040, 118-045 (for 3/16" rod); 118-070, 118-075 (for 1/4" rod). There are left and right configurations depending on the direction of bend at the end of the rod where it attaches to the lever.
Otherwise, get a part number for the EFE valve rod retaining clip from your local Chevy dealer and use that to search the Internet. As these trucks continue to age, special small parts like the one you need are becoming more difficult to find.

In the future when you need help finding parts, or just want to discuss a vehicle problem, if you let us know what year/model truck and engine/transmission combination you're working on, you'll receive a better response....
