Inner Door Panel Seals
« on: October 24, 2014, 04:13:16 pm »

What do you use? Is there a better automotive type material than the foam-tape bought at hardware stores?

When I took the door panels off the seals on the bottom were a white foam material, kind of "doughy" (I'm guessing it was OEM). I bought some replacement foam/sponge tape strip material but it didn't stick well to the surface grooves on the panel and it fell off after a couple of days (I havn't put the door panels back on the truck yet).

Advise?

On my 78 that foam actually went on the door not the panel

I was able to get mine to stick by spraying both the panel and the foam with Duro *spray adhesive. Wait for about a minute before putting the foam back into the groove on the panel.

What is the purpose of the foam seals on the bottom of the inner door panel? To keep it from rattling I assume?

Bottom line:  I have that 1/2"x1/2" foam tape with one-sided adhesive, but it won't stick to the door panel. And the side edges where the tape is supposed to be applied composed of 3 tiny plastic blades and not a flat surface.
