Dash gauges 88-91 CK1500
« on: November 25, 2004, 12:08:00 am »
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement dash pod for a 1989 1500 Chevy/GMC? Perhaps some knows how to convert to the 92 style gauge?  Please help me, the flickering of my shift light keeps drawing my eyes towards the surplus Rotex rotary valve speedo disk (is there another way to describe it?)  Who designed this thing?

Thank you!  Looks like a piece of cake...NOT!  I was hoping for a $100.00 bolt in, but thank you very much just the same.  I'll start collecting pieces this weekend, unless someone tells me about a store bought unit before then.
Thanks again!

Well, I do have this from Dakota Digital, but it requires the full gauge package setup not the warning lights:

Looks great!  I have a 89 GMC SLE with guages, but no tach.  Mine is a standard.  How does that work with the LED?  What do I need to do besides plug it in?

If yours (88-91) DOESN'T have a tach then all you need to do is plug your current hookups into this cluster and run a tach wire to the distributor.

If it DID have a tach, you would have more work involved.  This is mainly due to the fact that the majority of the 88-91's didn't have a tach.

Thanks a million!  I'm going to give this mod some consideration after X-mas.  I really appreciate the help.  Are you selling one of these?

yes, I sell all off Dakota Digital products.  I am adding these hopefully soon to the digital gauge portion of the online catalog.  They retail for $545 + shipping.  I am going to sell them for $499.95 + shipping.

Got it!  I don't know how long ago these things came out, but they would have sold like hot cakes in 1991.  Every time I look at my dash I ponder what GM was thinking.  They build the most asteticaly pleasing truck bodys, but Ford has had them beat on the interiors since 88.  Oh well, better for Dakota and you.

Good luck, we'll be talking again soon.
