84 Shortbox lift kit help!

I currently have an 84 shortbox with a 6-8" lift kit installed.  I bought it with the lift in it and I'm not sure what it is.  I have two problems with the truck as it currently sits and am thinking of changing the lift out for something different and wondering if anyone has any suggestions.  Problem 1....The truck rides like a brick.  The lift is all springs front and rear and it doesn't flex at all.  I'm guessing the rear is mostly to blame.  Problem 2....The cab sits just over 7' and it won't fit in my garage and it would sure be nice to be able to park it in there.  My questions are what should I do to get it to ride better and sit a bit shorter to fit in my 7' garage door.  I need to maintain some lift to clear 35x12.50 tires and I do like it lifted just a touch shorter to clear the garage door.  Does a truck with a 6" lift and 35's normally go in a 7' door?

what size tires are on it now? a 6" can clear 37s. 4" can clear 35s. so if you have 35s on it now you can drop it 2" but that probaly wont be enough to clear the door. better yet make the door bigger

You could get rid I almost off of the Lift

I have no lift and it clears 33's easily
I think 35's will fit with trimming the inside lip of the fender

Gonna try it in a few weeks

That's with stock rally wheels
Aftermarket 10" rims may not clear

The lift is a tall 6 or 8" lift.  I say this because I had another 84 shortbox with a six inch superlift in it and this one sits taller.  I measured it a while back but I don't remember how much the difference was and I sold the one with the 6" superlift in it.  The wheels on it now are 18x10 and the tires are 35x12.50 MTs.
