20x8.5 and 22x10 wheel backspace??
« on: November 24, 2014, 07:49:11 pm »
Hello friends, I'm building an 83 chevy silverado short bed lowered 5/5 at the moment, I'm putting on 20x8.5 in the front and 22x10 in the rear, what backspace do I need? anyone ever do that combo? I see it in the magazines all the time but they never mention the offset of the wheels.

I would greatly appreciate accurate information cause the wheels are custom ordered and are $900-1000 a wheel, once they are made I can't send them back.

Thanks guys!

Generally speaking you can chose ANY rim size and go with 5-5.5" backspacing for the front with no wider than 8.5" and 4.5-6" in the rear with no wider than 10".  With 22's I would stay on the lower side of the backspacing.
For the front I would get 5.5" as I know this works.
For the rear you could get from 4.5" to 5.5".

N2TRUX is running 5.5" on both, but his fronts are 8.5, rears 9.5

tvblazer78 is running 5" on 8.5 fronts and 4.5" on 10" rears

ok right on, that's helped me out a lot already! The blazer and my truck should share the same axles and wheel tub width right?

the truck and your truck would be the same, the Blazer would be similar, but if it fits the blazer it will fit the truck.  What you are after is no uncommon.

Thanks Captkaos!

I have not yet ordered the wheels but will do so in the next few weeks, the rear will probably be 285/35 and the front 255/35. or so that's what I see the guys in magazines do.

Captkaos .... you wouldnt happen to know the offste and tire size used on the blazer in the pictures above???? or offset that has been used in a similar set up.

im planning of running 20x8 in the front and 20x10 in the rear. i like the way the blazer looks so ill probably use the same sizes if i can trck them down

It says in the post.  5" on the front for backspacing and 4.5" for the rear.

Hey Captkaos, I believe what negron.victor.85c10 means is the offset, not the backspace, its almost the same but i don't think it makes a difference how you order. offset is measured from the center line to the mounting plate in millimeters and backspace is measured from the mounting plate to the outer rim edge.

This is the only backspacing i can find for the wheels im wanting to get

American Racing Torq Thrust II
Front 20x8 4.5 backspace Rear 20x10 5.75 backspace

Do ya'll think these would work with a 245/40 on the front and a 295/40 on the rear

I think they would fit, the backspacing I'll probably go with is 5 in the front and 5.5 in the rear. I need to make a phone call to a shop I know of that builds countless square body trucks and see if they'll tell me what backspacing they use. if anyone knows for sure, they should know!

Offset is going to be hard to measure.  backspacing is a set number.  Those sizes should work.
