How many miles
« on: November 25, 2014, 04:46:00 pm »
My truck just turned 200 k miles recently and I had been thinking of replacing it some time in the future. Yet that will not be happening. I was forced to retire and took another job at less pay so the new engine will have to wait. With all the trucks out there have any of you reached 300 k on the original stock motor?

Thanks
Joe

With routine maintenance 300K shouldn't be a problem.  There are many with more than that if taken care of.

A friend of mine had a 87 V10 short bed with a 350tbi motor that he bought brand new. At 257k it was getting rusty but ran like new. He gave it to me and I parted it out. The motor was one if the first things I sold off of the truck.
A few years later he gave me a 84 suburban K2500 with 233k that his parents bought new. It was getting crusty underneath but the 350 4 bolt ran like new. That motor  also sold quickly.
These motors will run for a long time with proper maintenance.

Growing up my dad got a 79' G20 Van new with a 350. When we sold it in 98' it had rolled over 3 or 4 times. He also had a 82' C10 that most likely had 200-300k on it.

My 87 350 TBI has 207 on it currently. It's my daily driver & still runs well. I also have a 68 F100 3 on tree with only 76 original.

My 83 says 51k on the odometer, For all I know that could be 151k, 251k, 351k.  I just know it stays running and it hasn't let me down yet.  That's what matters

if the engine is running good.  Why replace it ?

The numbers on the speedo have no relationship to the condition of the engine

I've seen cars with 300k that were in excellent condition and I've seen em with 75k that were Junkers

And remember.   A chevrolet runs poorly longer than most cars run at all
