Paint Gauge Besiel?????

Hello All, Just curious if any of you have painted (thinking spray paint) your gauge besiel. If so, what type of paint did you use? Did you sand it first? I ask this because I was considering doing mine while I have it off. I think it may look good all black, rather than the factory Chrome look. I am currently in the process of replacing bulbs, speakers, & a couple of gauges. Thought while I was at it I'd do a little cosmetic work also. Please let me know what you think & any suggestions would be great.😉

I haven't, but I don't really like the whole painted dash parts thing. I'm more of a factory look kinda guy on some parts, that being one of them.
Painting shouldn't be hard though. Wash it with a sponge and some warm soapy water, get all the nooks and crannies. Then the best paint would probably be a plastic specific paint and primer or plastic dye. Personally, I would use the dye, as it usually sticks better, lasts longer and looks better than rattle can plastic paint. Both come in spray cans but dye is better IMO.

Krylon Fusion
http://www.krylon.com/products/fusion-for-plastic/
is very good stuff for interior plastics. ive used it alot to match black door panels, center consoles, dash vents, and lots of other bits.
if you go the spray paint route i highly recommend it.

I'm new to the board, but recently I bought a tore up gauge bezel off of ebay. I sanded, cleaned everything I could, then just used flat rustoleum for the black. I went over that with brushed aluminum vinyl, and it looks pretty decent, without having to spend $250 on a new one. I bought the brushed aluminum vinyl off ebay for $8. Just took some patience with an exacto knife.

Wow that looks good! Nice job, I'll have to decide wich way to go. I was really wanting to get a.more "black" look as in all black. We own an 07 tahoe with the all black dash, I just love that look. Just not 100% sure if I shod try to achieve that look in my 87. Suppose I'll figure it out by the time I finish putting it all back together.

Only way you are gonna know is to try. Jump on Google and see what you can find or go to local parts yard, get a bezel for cheap, broken might be ok and spray it with a half decent coat and see how it looks. If you like it then you will know that with a good spray job on your bezel will come out really nice.
Jumbowolfe, welcome to the site. The vinyl looks very nice.

My stock bezel was black with silver highlights, which wore off here and there over the years. I re-did the silver with a silver paint pen from Hobby Lobby. Basically a magic marker with silver paint in it.
