Engine oil cooler

The used 350 I got for my truck has the engine oil filter "thingy" between the block and the oil filter that allows you to hook it up to a radiator as an engine oil cooler.

My truck's radiator doesn't have the facility for an engine oil cooling. Is there a special radiator that has that or is there a special Engine Oil Cooler radiator?
If I choose to can I just remove the engine oil cooler "thingy"?

You can just remove it.  Oil coolers are typically used when pulling heavy trailers, like big travel trailers.  They use a separate radiator mounted in front of the water radiator, like an air conditioner coil or a trans cooler.  Most SBCs run stone cold, so it is not a requirement except in heavy service.

Back in the day, my dad had a 1975 F-250 he used to tow a 35 foot trailer.  It had a 460 engine and air conditioning, a trans cooler, an oil cooler, and a HD four-row radiator.  It was kind of busy up front.

could he just use a remote cooler like that make for the trans?

Yes.  They're usually called "fluid coolers" and work for either trans fluid or engine oil cooling.

If you pull off that part you'll need the adapter for screw on oil filters. Those adapters were more found on the newer trucks more than the old trucks.

Depends.  Some of the sandwich plates replace the stock bypass, and some screw onto the stock bypass.  If the one that's on there replaced the stock bypass, then you're right, he'll need to get one and put it back on.
