Can't seem to get timing correct also don't know if that is causing the dieseling . but I have 250 inline 6 4.1 and just got brand new 2 barrel carb. tried adjusting timing don't know if its right but retard or advance never heard the ping but under load and horrible acceleration it shakes not to bad but only in low rpm range. lacking power under load and using a metric munge ton of fuel any ideas why? also it clears up once i reach 25 mph

timing should be 10° with engine warm with Distributor vacuum hose disconnected & plugged, (if you can safety do)Transmission in drive (parking brake engaged) and about 650 rpms

And we hit it with a timing gun and got it to 8° btdc so basically what your saying it will will run better at 10° btdc

8° is ok and its good for a California truck but 10° she should run better. dont worry about putting it in gear most dont due to the risk of the truck moving.

Google vacuum diagram for that year engine and make sure lines are hooked up, my 350s timing was being funky like that, then I found my vacuum leaks and it was solved after. Also is your choke adjusted?

Has it been burnt and non functional the whole entire time the truck has had hot starting problems? Your going to probably solve your problem with a fresh adjusted carb and choke in my opinion but you can guess so much over the Internet haha

I am taking it to the Chevy man for a front to back run through mostly to adjust and tune carb check if distributor gear is worn or not also valves maybe a little off need to get 4 new shocks 2 new coils up front 2 new tires out back and a new bench seat would be nice
