Looked better with the mud flaps and at least they were functional. People driving around in lifted trucks without mud flaps should be beat with them. :P

People with lifted trucks should be beaten regardless lol.  Big rims, tiny tires, useless for anything practical.

Trucks like Mudder96 here are still use full and practical. There's a big difference between lifted 4x4 and use able 4x4.

I'm not saying there isn't. What I'm saying is people lift up their trucks but don't take into account what it does behind them. No mud flaps equals rock and debris tossed much easier at vehicles behind them.

Be courtesy to the drivers behind you and put mud flaps on. If you don't like them get some transparent ones.

Yea your right. Here in CA, they take clear pieces of plexiglass and cut them down to the smallest legal size and then mount them with these big over sized brackets that are painted to match the truck. Looks ridiculous and doesn't even really work, the tires are almost always bigger than the mud flap.  You get debris tossed under and over them, there are only about the size of a 8x11 piece of paper, might as well not have any at all.

So I picked up a little something for Big Red last night... Got a 400sbc with 882 heads from a 76 K5 Blazer. I'm gonna clean it up nice and possibly build it up a little with a cam kit and maybe port and polish on the heads... Open to ideas! What size carb? 750cfm Eddy?

882 heads are junk heads and not really worth doing much to. Just your run of the mill era style heads. Although if they are the heavy casting they'll be better than the light casting.

So what would be a good replacement to get? Factory or aftermarket, budget build

That is not an original Minnesota truck is it?

May want to keep the mud flaps for winter driving. The mud flaps seem to delay the formation of rust because they help deflect the salt bath on the winter roads.

If there was ever a weakness to the '73~80 GM trucks it was a total lack of rust proofing.
