I have an 81 short wheelbase step side. I was wanting opinions on how to finish the bed boards. An oil finish like linseed or use a varnish like spar

Loooong time ago, we used boiled linseed oil on all our vehicle wood boards.  There are more permanent and durable finishes these days.  I would go to some of the big box hardware stores or a boating supplies store and look for a marine-grade polyurethane or something similar.
