Help with decoding an engine block
« on: February 09, 2015, 04:26:06 pm »
I was given an engine trans and transfer case, I know what the trans and transfer case are but not sure on the engine block can someone decode these stamped numbers and letters for me,  or give me a site to decode them myself. These are on the pad behind the alternator...

Its  V1021CLA    over     175410676     Casting number is  # 3970010

Thank you,  Alan

Wow thanks guys.  I'm guessing by the VIN number it's a 77, the 1 being Chevy and the 7 be year of mfg., so Oct 21 1977 that would be a smogger motor, correct?  I'm guessing it's on the lower end of the power scale.
Irish_Alley you seem to answer all my questions I my have to PM you instead of tying up the space on the forum.  ;D  Thanks again guys much appreciated

I was just messin with ya.   As to the VIN number I guessing the 175410676 is a partial VIN by the info on Nastyz28 site.  Just a guess
