Transmission not shifting
« on: February 12, 2015, 05:35:40 pm »
Hi, the Rust Bucket (77 K10) was parked for a month. I started it up and moved it everything seemed ok. The next day started it up and shifted the TH350 from park into reverse = nothing, shifted to drive = nothing. Moved the shifter through the entire range and nothing. No noise, no normal "thunk" when it goes into a gear. When I put it back in park I got some resistance and gear grinding noise. I had my GF shift it while I watched the linkage and it moves properly and the shifter on the side of the transmission seems to move properly.

Any ideas what might have happened? Other troubleshooting steps?

Thanks
dt

Thanks, There is plenty of fairly clean fluid in the dip stick with the transmission cold. Well above the line that says "check while hot".

Checked while running?  If not you have to check it running.  If you are between the lines the trans is fried more than likely if the torque converter is attached to the flex plate.

Thank you all very much. The problem turned out to be that I am an idiot. I had accidentally engaged 4wd.  <insert really embarrassed emoticon here>
