Motor Swap
« on: March 14, 2015, 10:31:36 pm »
I have a 1986 Chevy Scottsdale c20. That currently has a 305 with 215k miles. I'm wanting to do a motor swap. I'm not sure what tranny I currently have. And don't know what motor I should drop in it. I haven't found any 305 in my local junk yards. This truck is my daily driver and I want decent gas mileage. Any ideas?

Describe decent gas mileage...

Why not rebuild the current motor?

The 6.2 and LS engines can offer better mpg than the 305 but they are not simple "drop in" swaps.

14mpg is decent to me. I was thinking a 307 if I could find one.

a 307 is going to be difficult to find.  I would recommend rebuilding the 305.  It should be able to get 14mpg average on a 2wd.  What gearing and trans are in your 3/4T?
