1981 C10 stepside from Norway
« on: March 15, 2015, 12:19:52 pm »
Will start on å project to make a 1981 a little bit nicer and drivable ;o)
Need tips and info under build.
Will post pic's under construction.

Is it a good shop to order parts from? That "have it all" for a 1981 C10..with good prices  :)

This is the project

One of the things I want to do is lower the fenders on the stepside 2". Anyone got a picture of that done? cant find any...
and remove all of the "bling" and change mirrors.
Also build a new dash in fiberglass or steel. not decided yet.
And lower the car without changing the frame.

It's gonna be a daily user, so nothing extreme.

Keep in mind if you drop the fenders the bodyline won't match anymore. I suggest "lengthening" the steps.  I always wanted to do this and someone just recently did it.  I will try and find the pics...

Maybe I am wrong, but I think my fenders are 1 inch or so higher than the the cabin??

I will loosen it and try anyway, in worst case I will shorten them, 2 inch drop will happen ;o)

Very nice truck.
I'll bet you don't see too many of those in Norway.

Another option, restore it to look original.

There are 2 body lines on the rear fenders.  The smallest one lines up with the body line as in BBM3's pic...

And the upper bodyline on fender will match better I think, and I want a air gap from top of fender to the top-stepeside.
And you can see the bottom line will also match better if lowerd. I think it is strange that not more people have done it??

I think it was done to match the 73-79 front fenders

They had double lines just like stepside fenders

Here is an OLD post where I brought up this very topic. I since figured out how to make that same photo lighter
http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=10171.90

On this one, I "moved" the bedsides down like I did on my fleetside. I think a combination of the two (lowering the sides & then the fenders on the sides) would be ideal...allot of work, but ideal.

Irish, Your thoughts about the wheelwells is valid & appears to be why they are where they were put, however look at the fleetsides, the wheelwells don't match...with the back being several inches lower. Many vehicle have lower/different rear wheelwells than the front. I agree that on a '73-'80 they would look a bit "more wrong" as you pick up the matching rounded front, however unless you got happy & Two-toned around the bodylines or something, I don't see it as near as bad as not being low enough to the rocker. Think about the Ford & Dodge of the '70's era...the beds look like they were left over from the '60's...Oh, they were!

Any of it would be an improvement...the step deal has always bugged me. The guys who mentioned in the old post about  grafting on the bottom isn't terrible either. A chunk of rocker welded onto the step may look nice? I don't care much for the Orange truck Capt. posted...appreciate the work, but just feel it's out of proportion.

Here is the old picture lightened up a bunch...I think the bedrail is a bit too low compared to the cab which is what leads me to say an 1" on the bedside & 2" on the fenders or something would "nail it". The Black isn't as easy to see what is going on as the above Brown either. Just adding my opinion, Lorne
