rocker panel rust?
« on: March 02, 2003, 09:51:00 am »
My truck body had been all redone a couple of years ago, but of course living In Iowa every place there is a chip its rusting fast. And because I have such large tires on my truck the Rocker Panels are starting to rust pretty bad.
Has anyone thought of any ways to remedy this.  Rock Chip Protection of some sort?
This Is my thought.
Rynolining the bottom strip across my truck the width of the Rocker from the front wheel well to the back of the truck.
My truck is black so I think it would blend in well but even if it wasn't if you did a good job I think it would look ok.
What does everyone think?
Will the Rynolining stand up to the rock chips?  Is there a better way?
thanks
c

Did you ever considered running boards? I have a couple off a parts truck I'm gonna put on when I get a long weekend, they look like they should protect the rocker pretty good. I know how you feel about the chips, just this summer i put a $800 paint job (materials only) on my truck, and this sand in CT chipped the crap out of the corner of the bed right behind the cab corner, no paint left there. I wish I put them running boards on after I painted it and drove it even a mile.

Chip gaurd works OK the rinolining should work good. there are also brush on bed liners that work good, like Herculiner. The only draw back to these are they fade after long exposer to uv ray etc. but being down low it might not be as bad.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Thanks, Ill have to look into that brush on bed liner.
I dont really want running boards on my truck. Dont think it would look right.  But when I do get it fixed I am planning on putting some fender flares of some kind on to try to help.  Just havent decided on which ones.
