dash frame
« on: April 01, 2015, 12:25:41 pm »
I have an '82 step side and the dash frame is rusted thru and I need to replace it. My question is where can I buy one?

I don't think you can buy the dash frame, I don't remember ever seeing those pieces in any catalogs, but I could be wrong.

Part of it is spot welded on and other parts are bolted I believe, you may have to find a scrap truck with a good one, cut the dashs out and then re attach the good one to your truck.

a word to the wise, if you do this dont be bragging about it or anything unless you find out the legal ways to do it cause you have to mess with the vin. seen a buddy get blackmailed because too many people knew his vin was swapped. but you have a spot weld every inch under the windshield so that has to be removed then you have two bolts on each side that have to be removed. thats if you remove the whole dash, you might be able to get away with only cutting out a portion of the dash and welding it in place

I think the door pillar would rot out before the dash frame.

I mean that I can do dash swaps with no reprocussions regarding the vin tag like most people.

Think of this as a gift for you to go custom.  By the time you find a donor, cut weld, transfer, cut, weld, blah blah, bleeding knuckles and scrapes.  Deal with your vin plate.  You should find someone who will fiberglass a sweet dash for you.

Check all your options!
